METAS Program

The M.E.T.A.S. (Mentoring, Educating, and Training for Academic Success) Program is designed to assist Latino first-year and transfer students with their college transition by pairing them with a peer mentor who will provide guidance and support throughout their first year. Benefits to participation include learning about resources and opportunities at UConn, attending educational, cultural, and social events, and meeting other students who are going through the same experience. Stop by the Center to receive more information or download your application!

Latino Heritage Month

We celebrate the contributions, history, culture, and traditions of Latinos throughout the entire year. During the national observance of Latino Heritage Month (September 15 – October 15), we proudly honor the richness and diversity of our community by sponsoring programs focused on Latino themes and issues, which include guest speakers, lectures, conferences, films, artistic performances and workshops.

Homecoming

The Center is an active participant in Homecoming, which consists of a banner, alma mater, float, lip sync, and royalty competitions as well as a football game. Join us and become involved!

Guest Speakers / Lecturers

Throughout the year, we bring local, state, and nationally renowned guest speakers and authors. Some of our past guests have included Naomi Ayala, Piri Thomas, Samuel Betances, Martín Espada, Eddie Pérez, Bessy Reyna, Juan González, Enrique Morones, Anthony Romero, Carlos Eire, Mayra Santos, and Aya de León.

Latin Fest

Latin Fest is an annual spring celebration for students, faculty, staff, and the wider community, held at the Jorgensen Center for Performing Arts. Some of the previous performers have been Frankie Negron, Celia Cruz, Marc Anthony, Millie Quezada, and Tito Nieves. This event celebrates Latino cultures and consists of lots of good dancing, food, and friends!

Recognition Banquet

At the end of each year, PRLACC honors graduating seniors and outstanding students, faculty, and staff. Family and friends of those being recognized are welcome to attend.
